The Biblica Open Kurdi Sorani Standard Version (in Sorani, وەشانی بێبەرامبەری کوردیی سۆرانیی ستاندەر) is Biblica's whole Bible for Central Kurdish, or Sorani, spoken mainly in Iraqi Kurdistan and western Iran. The copyright years show a text that matured in stages: 1998, 2011, 2016 and 2020, when the open edition you see here appeared. Sorani is written in an Arabic-based alphabet, and the Midvash reader displays it right to left, the way it is meant to be read.
The word Standard in the name signals the intent: a reference Sorani that readers from different regions can follow, not the speech of a single city. Like Biblica's other versions, it translates from the original languages and puts a clear meaning for today's reader first.
For Sorani readers it is a complete Bible with more than twenty years of revision behind it. The honest limit starts with the name of the language: Kurdish is not one thing, and speakers of Kurmanji, the northern Kurdish written in Latin letters in Turkey and Syria, are not served by this version. The usual caveat for meaning-based translations applies too: where the original is ambiguous, the translator's choice stays hidden without another version alongside.
It is free on Midvash because Biblica, the publisher that holds the NIV, released the text through open.bible under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). It can be read, quoted and shared without asking, keeping the credit to Biblica and the same license.
