Like a weaned child

A song of ascents. Of David. My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty. I do not aspire to great things or matters too lofty for me.a 2Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.b 3O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, both now and forevermore.c

Psalm 131 is one of the shortest and most intimate songs in the Psalter, a quiet prayer of humility and trust attributed to David. In just three verses, the psalmist declares a heart that is not proud, eyes that are not haughty, and a soul that has been weaned from restless ambition
