Ochiw Thuolo Motingʼo Loko Manyien

The Biblica Open New Luo Translation (in Dholuo, Ochiw Thuolo Motingʼo Loko Manyien) is Biblica's complete Bible for Dholuo, the Nilotic language of the Luo people, spoken mainly in western Kenya around Lake Victoria and in northern Tanzania. The copyright years tell a layered story: 1980, 2002, 2003 and finally 2020, the year of the open edition you are reading here.

Like Biblica's other versions, it works from the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek toward everyday speech, where carrying the meaning matters more than mirroring the word order of the original. It is meant to be understood on the first reading, not decoded.

For Dholuo readers it offers the whole of Scripture in current, easy-to-follow language. The honest limit is the one every meaning-based translation shares: where the original is ambiguous, the translator has to pick a reading, and that choice stays invisible unless you have another version open beside it. For word-level study, check it against a more literal translation.

It is free on Midvash because Biblica, the publisher that holds the NIV, released the text through open.bible under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). You can read, quote and share it without asking, as long as Biblica is credited and the same license is kept.
