Psalms 131

Like a weaned child

ord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp.a 2Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.b 3O Israel, put your hope in the Lord— now and always.c

Commentary
Psalm 131 is one of the shortest and most intimate songs in the Psalter, a quiet prayer of humility and trust attributed to David. In just three verses, the psalmist declares a heart that is not proud, eyes that are not haughty, and a soul that has been weaned from restless ambition
