Psalms 128

Blessing on the household

ow joyful are those who fear the Lord— all who follow his ways!a ²You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be!b ³Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table.c

⁴That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him. ⁵May the Lord continually bless you from Zion. May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live.d ⁶May you live to enjoy your grandchildren. May Israel have peace!e

Commentary

Psalm 128 is a wisdom psalm that paints a portrait of the blessed life as one lived in the fear of the Lord. It promises that those who walk in God's ways will enjoy the fruit of their labor, a flourishing family, and the peace of Jerusalem. The psalm moves from the individual house
