The Free Bible Version (FBV) is the work of Dr. Jonathan Gallagher, who holds the copyright (2018) and is credited as translator on eBible.org. It is a modern translation into American English and covers the whole Bible, Old and New Testaments.
For the New Testament, the project's own front matter says it was made directly from the standard Nestle-Aland Greek text, in contemporary English without slang or colloquialisms. The result reads easily aloud and aims at the sense of each sentence rather than a word-for-word match with the Greek. The sources we checked describe the method only for the New Testament, so we say nothing about how the Old Testament was translated.
It is a young translation. It lacks the long record of committee review and church use that the major translations have. Alongside the KJV, BSB, WEB or ASV, it is best used as a reading companion that clarifies a hard sentence, not as the text for close word study.
The FBV is released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. It may be copied and revised if the copyright and source are kept, changes are marked, and new work carries the same license. Its value is a fresh, readable, freely reusable New Testament.
