Berean Standard Bible

The Berean Standard Bible (BSB) began life as the Berean Study Bible, published in 2016 by the team behind Bible Hub, one of the largest English Bible study sites. The name comes from the Bereans of Acts 17:11, who "examined the Scriptures every day" to test what they heard. The revision that became the BSB appeared in 2022, and on April 30, 2023 the text was dedicated to the public domain.
Its method sits in the middle: faithful to the form of the original where that aids understanding, freer where word-for-word rendering would make the English stiff. The Old Testament follows the Hebrew Masoretic Text and the New Testament the critical editions of the Greek. Behind it stands a full interlinear, so each English word can be traced to the original word it renders.
It is a good study companion: clear enough for continuous reading, close enough to the original to set beside the NIV or ESV. The honest limit is its youth. It lacks the long history of congregational use that the KJV or NIV carry, and few printed editions circulate outside the web.
What makes it rare is the license. Modern translations almost always have an owner; the BSB does not. Anyone may copy, quote, record or translate from it without asking permission, which is why it is here in full, with no restrictions.
