Matthew 5:12

¹²Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.k

Matthew 5 opens the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus' most concentrated teaching on the ethics of the kingdom of heaven. It begins with the Beatitudes, a series of blessings that invert worldly values, pronouncing favor on the poor in spirit, the meek, and the persecuted. Jesus then calls
