Romans 11:4-6

⁴But what is God's reply to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”d

⁵So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.e

⁶But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.f

Romans 11 is the climax of Paul's agonizing reflection on Israel's place in God's redemptive plan. Having argued that Israel's rejection of the gospel is neither total nor final, Paul now unveils the mystery of God's sovereign purposes: the hardening of part of Israel has opened
