Matthew 23:37

³⁷“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.l

Matthew 23 records Jesus’ most sustained and severe public critique, directed not at Rome or sinners, but at the religious leadership of Israel. He exposes the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy, their love of status, and their burdening of others with laws they themselves do
