²²After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.b

This chapter is primarily a genealogy, notable for its repetitive structure emphasizing the long lifespans of these early patriarchs, each followed by the stark phrase, “and then he died.” The exception is Enoch, who “walked faithfully with God” and was taken by God without experiencing death, offering a glimmer of hope and divine favor amidst the pervasive reality of mortality introduced by the Fall.
