Exodus 32:25

²⁵Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock to their enemies.

Exodus 32 recounts the tragic episode of Israel's idolatry at Mount Sinai. While Moses is on the mountain receiving the Law from God, the people grow impatient and demand Aaron make them a god. Aaron complies, fashioning a golden calf, which they worship as the god who brought them out of Egypt. God's furious response and Moses's intercession highlight the severity of their sin and the depth of divine mercy, ultimately leading to a confrontation, judgment, and a renewed, albeit costly, covenant relationship.
