Exodus 32:10

¹⁰Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”c

Exodus 32 recounts the tragic episode of Israel's idolatry at Mount Sinai. While Moses is on the mountain receiving the Law from God, the people grow impatient and demand Aaron make them a god. Aaron complies, fashioning a golden calf, which they worship as the god who brought them out of Egypt. God's furious response and Moses's intercession highlight the severity of their sin and the depth of divine mercy, ultimately leading to a confrontation, judgment, and a renewed, albeit costly, covenant relationship.
