Exodus 17:6

⁶I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.a

In Exodus 17, the Israelites face two significant challenges in the wilderness: a severe lack of water at Rephidim and an attack by the Amalekites. God miraculously provides water from a rock through Moses' staff, demonstrating His faithfulness despite the people's grumbling. Immediately after, Israel engages in their first major battle, where God grants victory through Moses' uplifted hands, supported by Aaron and Hur. This chapter highlights God's provision and protection, while also revealing the persistent unbelief of His people and the enduring enmity of Amalek.
