Matthew 26:66-68

⁶⁶Are you going to stand for such blasphemy?" They all said, "Death! That seals his death sentence."

⁶⁷Then they were spitting in his face and banging him around. They jeered as they slapped him:

⁶⁸"Prophesy, Messiah: Who hit you that time?"

Matthew 26 marks the pivot from Jesus’ public ministry to his passion. The chapter opens with the religious leaders plotting his death, then moves through a series of intimate and agonizing scenes: the anointing at Bethany, Judas’s betrayal, the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the arrest,
