Genesis 5:22

²²And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:b

Genesis 5 presents the “book of the generations of Adam,” detailing the lineage from Adam to Noah through Seth. This chapter is primarily a genealogy, notable for its repetitive structure emphasizing the long lifespans of these early patriarchs, each followed by the stark phrase, “and then he died.” The exception is Enoch, who “walked faithfully with God” and was taken by God without experiencing death, offering a glimmer of hope and divine favor amidst the pervasive reality of mortality introduced by the Fall.
