Genesis 16:11

¹¹And the angel of the Lord said to her, “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction.a

Genesis 16 recounts the tragic story of Sarai's impatience and Hagar's mistreatment, leading to the birth of Ishmael. Faced with barrenness and a delayed promise, Sarai takes matters into her own hands, offering her servant Hagar to Abram as a surrogate. This decision sparks conflict, Hagar flees, and an angel of the Lord intervenes, promising Hagar a multitude of descendants and instructing her to return.
