Numbers 14:18-19

¹⁸Jehovah [is] slow to anger, and of great kindness; bearing away iniquity and transgression, and not entirely acquitting, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on a third [generation], and on a fourth; —d

¹⁹forgive, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of Thy kindness, and as Thou hast borne with this people from Egypt, even until now.'

Numbers 14 records Israel's catastrophic failure of faith at Kadesh-barnea. After hearing the discouraging report from ten of the twelve spies, the people rebel against God and Moses, refusing to enter the Promised Land. God's judgment is swift and severe: the entire generation, save Caleb and Joshua, will die in the wilderness, wandering for forty years. Despite Moses' intercession, the decree stands, highlighting the gravity of their unbelief and rebellion.
