John 11:47-48

⁴⁷the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrim, and said, 'What may we do? because this man doth many signs?

⁴⁸if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.'

João 11 recounts the death and resurrection of Lazarus, the seventh and climactic sign in John's Gospel. Jesus deliberately delays going to Bethany, allowing his friend to die, so that the glory of God might be displayed. The chapter contains the famous 'I am the resurrection and
