Genesis 11:31

³¹And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.h

Genesis 11 presents the narrative of the Tower of Babel, a pivotal story illustrating humanity's continued rebellion against God after the flood. United by a common language, people settle in Shinar and attempt to build a city and a tower “reaching to the heavens,” seeking to make a name for themselves and avoid dispersion. God intervenes by confusing their language, scattering them across the earth, and thus fulfilling His original command to fill the earth. The chapter concludes with the genealogy of Shem, tracing the lineage from Noah to Abram, setting the stage for God's covenant with Abram in the next chapter.
