Genesis 21:5-7

⁵Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

⁶Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”b

⁷She said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Genesis 21 marks a pivotal moment in Abraham's story with the long-awaited birth of Isaac, fulfilling God's covenant promise. This joy is quickly tempered by the expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael, a difficult decision driven by Sarah's jealousy and God's instruction to Abraham. The chapter concludes with Abraham's covenant with Abimelech at Beersheba, highlighting God's continued faithfulness to Abraham even amidst complex family dynamics and territorial disputes.
