Exodus 5:2

²Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”a

In **Exodus 5**, Moses and Aaron confront Pharaoh for the first time, delivering God's demand to “Let my people go.” Pharaoh defiantly refuses, not only rejecting their request but also intensifying the Israelites' forced labor. He accuses Moses and Aaron of stirring up trouble and removes the provision of straw, forcing the Israelite foremen to meet the same brick quotas under harsher conditions. This chapter marks the beginning of the direct conflict between God's power and Pharaoh's hardened will, setting the stage for the plagues to come.
