James 4:5-6

⁵Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.e

⁶And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”f

James 4 cuts to the heart of the conflict within the Christian community, diagnosing its root cause as disordered desire and friendship with the world. James calls for radical humility before God, repentance from double-mindedness, and a cessation of slander against one another. The
