John 13:4-5

⁴so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.

⁵After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.c

John 13 marks a decisive pivot in the Fourth Gospel. Jesus, knowing his hour has come, washes his disciples' feet in an act of shocking humility, then identifies Judas as his betrayer and predicts Peter's denial. The chapter establishes the new commandment of love and models servant
