James 4:3-4

³When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.c

⁴You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.d

James 4 cuts to the heart of the conflict within the Christian community, diagnosing its root cause as disordered desire and friendship with the world. James calls for radical humility before God, repentance from double-mindedness, and a cessation of slander against one another. The
