Genesis 12 marks a pivotal turning point in biblical history, initiating God's redemptive plan through a single individual, Abram. God calls Abram to leave his homeland and family, promising him a great nation, a blessing, and universal blessing through his descendants. This chapter establishes the Abrahamic Covenant, a foundational promise that underpins much of the Old Testament and finds its ultimate fulfillment in Christ. Abram's journey of faith, marked by both obedience and initial missteps, sets the stage for the unfolding drama of salvation.
