Matthew 26:48-50

⁴⁸The betrayer had worked out a sign with them: "The one I kiss, that''s the one--seize him."

⁴⁹He went straight to Jesus, greeted him, "How are you, Rabbi?" and kissed him.

⁵⁰Jesus said, "Friend, why this charade?" Then they came on him--grabbed him and roughed him up.

Matthew 26 marks the pivot from Jesus’ public ministry to his passion. The chapter opens with the religious leaders plotting his death, then moves through a series of intimate and agonizing scenes: the anointing at Bethany, Judas’s betrayal, the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the arrest,
