Judges 8:1-3

¹Then the Ephraimites said to Gideon, "Why did you leave us out of this, not calling us when you went to fight Midian?" They were indignant and let him know it.

²But Gideon replied, "What have I done compared to you? Why, even the gleanings of Ephraim are superior to the vintage of Abiezer. i

³God gave you Midian''s commanders, Oreb and Zeeb. What have I done compared with you?" When they heard this, they calmed down and cooled off. [JC]

Judges 8 chronicles Gideon's pursuit and defeat of the Midianite kings, Zebah and Zalmunna, and the subsequent challenges he faces from his own people. Despite his military triumph, Gideon's character begins to show flaws, particularly in his harsh treatment of Sukkot and Penuel and his creation of an ephod that becomes a snare to Israel. The chapter highlights the cyclical nature of Israel's faithfulness and the dangers of human leadership, even from a divinely appointed deliverer.
