Exodus 33:11

¹¹And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.a

In **Exodus 33**, following the golden calf idolatry, God declares He will not go with Israel into the Promised Land, but will send an angel instead. This news deeply grieves the people. Moses intercedes passionately, seeking God's continued presence and glory. God relents, affirming His unique relationship with Moses and promising His presence, though He only reveals His goodness and back, not His full face, to Moses. The chapter highlights the profound tension between God's holiness and His covenant faithfulness, and the indispensable role of a mediator.
