Isaiah 49:6

⁶And hee sayde, It is a small thing that thou shouldest be my seruaunt, to raise vp the tribes of Iaakob, and to restore the desolations of Israel: I will also giue thee for a light of the Gentiles, that thou maiest bee my saluation vnto the ende of the worlde.d

Isaiah 49 introduces the Servant of the Lord in a new light: not only as a restorer of Israel but as a light to the nations. The chapter opens with the Servant’s own testimony of being called from the womb, then shifts to a tender address to a despondent Zion, assuring her that God
