Matthew 4:19-21

¹⁹And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”p

²⁰Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

²¹And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

Matthew 4 opens with Jesus being led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, a direct confrontation that echoes Israel's testing in the desert. After forty days of fasting, Jesus resists each temptation by quoting Scripture, demonstrating his faithfulness where Israel failed
