John 8:43-44

⁴³Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.u

John 8 opens with the dramatic scene of a woman caught in adultery, brought before Jesus as a trap. Jesus' response — "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her" — disarms her accusers and offers her not condemnation but a call to new life. The chapte
