1 Corinthians 13:4-8

⁴Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely; is not puffed up;d

⁵Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil;e

⁶Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth;f

⁷Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.g

⁸Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void, or tongues shall cease, or knowledge shall be destroyed.h

1 Corinthians 13 is Paul's famous hymn to love, placed strategically between his teaching on spiritual gifts (chapters 12 and 14). After cataloging the variety of gifts in the body of Christ, Paul pivots to show a "more excellent way" — love as the essential character that must anim
