Romans 4:3-6

³For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.c

⁴Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt.d

⁵But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness.e

⁶Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,

Romans 4 is Paul's masterful demonstration that the pattern of salvation has always been by faith alone, not by works of the law. He takes his Jewish readers back to their founding father, Abraham, and shows from Genesis 15:6 that Abraham was counted righteous before he was circu
