John 8:39-40

³⁹They answered and said unto him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.s

⁴⁰But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard from God: this did not Abraham.

John 8 opens with the dramatic scene of a woman caught in adultery, brought before Jesus as a trap. Jesus' response — "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her" — disarms her accusers and offers her not condemnation but a call to new life. The chapte
