Exodus 32:21-22

²¹And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought a great sin upon them?

²²And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are [set] on evil.

Exodus 32 recounts the tragic episode of Israel's idolatry at Mount Sinai. While Moses is on the mountain receiving the Law from God, the people grow impatient and demand Aaron make them a god. Aaron complies, fashioning a golden calf, which they worship as the god who brought them out of Egypt. God's furious response and Moses's intercession highlight the severity of their sin and the depth of divine mercy, ultimately leading to a confrontation, judgment, and a renewed, albeit costly, covenant relationship.
