2 Chronicles 12 narrates the humbling of King Rehoboam and the kingdom of Judah. After three years of obedience, Rehoboam and all Israel abandon the law of the Lord. In response, God sends Shishak, king of Egypt, to punish Jerusalem. The chapter pivots on a moment of repentance:
