Matthew 21:4-7

⁴Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:a

⁵Tell ye the daughter of Sion: Behold thy king cometh to thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of her that is used to the yoke.b

⁶And the disciples going, did as Jesus commanded them.

⁷And they brought the ass and the colt, and laid their garments upon them, and made him sit thereon.

Matthew 21 marks a decisive pivot in the Gospel narrative. Jesus enters Jerusalem in a deliberately provocative display of messianic kingship, cleanses the temple with prophetic authority, curses a fig tree as a living parable of judgment, and engages in escalating confrontations
