Matthew 13:13-14

¹³Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.e

¹⁴And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:f

Matthew 13 marks a decisive pivot in Jesus’s ministry. He moves from teaching the crowds in synagogues and on hillsides to speaking exclusively in parables — stories that simultaneously reveal and conceal. This chapter collects seven parables about the kingdom of heaven, each one
